Elementary Admissions

At WMS, we are proud of our reputation as the only AMI recognized school in the western suburbs.  Our staff and student body are relatively small and the resulting community is closely knit and unique.  Admission includes a specific set of steps to ensure parents know as much about our elementary program as possible.

Our re-enrollment process for 1st grade in 2010 and in 2011 is open and we anticipate the spaces to be filled early.

Procedure

  • Attend Elementary Move-Up Night on Thursday, November 5th.  This will give you an overview of the program through stories and lessons to illustrate WMS’s unique program.
  • Parents must schedule an observation.  (If child lives with 2 parents, both are required.)  Call the school office at (630) 653-5100 to schedule an appointment.
  • Write a letter stating your intentions for elementary by December 1, 2010.  (To enroll your child for 2010-2016 or 2011-2017.)
  • Submit a completed and signed application form with a $250 non-refundable application fee which will be applied during child’s 6th grade year.

Policy

Wheaton Montessori School welcomes all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability.  We value diversity at Wheaton Montessori and believe a diverse school enriches the educational experience for all.

The school accepts those qualified students who, in the opinion of the school, will have successful experiences in the program and will enhance the classes for which they are applicants.

Generally, applicants will be given priority in the following order:

  • WMS families enrolling younger siblings who are able to demonstrate plans to complete 6th grade at WMS and have had 3-4 years of primary experience at WMS.
  • Date of application
  • Siblings of WMS families without 3-4 years of primary experience
  • Children with continuous Montessori experiences from other AMI schools
  • Classroom balance of age and gender:  according to WMS policy, classrooms are carefully balanced by age and, to the extent we deem necessary, gender.
  • Applicants whose parents have attended WMS parent education programs.
  • All other qualified applicants.

WMS policies are made with the success of each prospective child in mind, as well as, our commitment to the existing student community.
